Latest ChemKey Search Database Update File

For obtaining the [50,000 to 55,000] ChemKey Search Update file (5,000 new references from the 1996-1997 Literature)

IMPORTANT--Please Read before downloading the CKUpdate file.

Please note that that Filemaker Pro 2.0 places a 32 megabyte limit on its files. Thus, it is very important that you save the Chemkey.fm database as a "compressed set" before updating, as otherwise you may run into some problems. Before attempting to read in the new CKUpdate.fm file (see below), you first Save the Chemkey.fm file as a "Compressed Copy" This will shrink the file down from its current level by 5-8 megabytes and will avoid future problems. The way to do this is to Open the database as usual and under the "File" menu--do a "Save a Copy As" and make sure to use the mouse to set the menu bar at "Compressed Copy (smaller)" It may take several hours to save the database as the program does quite a bit of internal juggling. So before you do this, make a duplicate copy just in case something goes haywire during this rather lengthy Save routine. We have had no difficulty doing it on our computers and its best done just before leaving the office at night.

• For the Mac:
• Download ckupdate.hqx (2319 KB) to your Mac
• If your browser (i.e. Netscape) does not automatically convert the ckupdate.hqx file into the ckupdate.sea stuffit file you will need to use binhex 4.0 to convert the hqx (hexidecimal file) into binary format to generate a new file called ckupdate.sea
• It is necessary to decompress the ckupdate.sea file so as to create a new file called ckupdate.fm. To do this, simply click on ckupdate.sea
• Once the ckupdate.fm file is created, make sure it is in the same folder as your current Chemkey.fm file. Open up Chemkey.fm in the normal way and under the Scripts menu, click on Update the Database. The 5,000 new references will be automatically added to the Chemkey database over the next hour.
• For the IBM PC:
• download the compressed, binary ckupdate.zip (2557 KB) to your PC
• Using your version of pkunzip, unzip the ckupdate.zip file
• Once the ckupdate.fm file is created, make sure it is in the same folder as your current Chemkey.fm file. Open up Chemkey.fm in the normal way and under the Scripts menu, click on Update the Database. The 5,000 new references will be automatically added to the Chemkey database over the next hour.
